What?!?!?

From what I understand, they cancelled it because the school board pulled thier Davis Ford Middle School application and that was the only major thing on the agenda. So they just decided to be a no show?

Am I the only one who thinks that the 8 people whose salaries my tax dollars pay should have shown up anyway? Even if it were just for citizen's time? Isn't the whole meeting basically citizen's time? Or have we been cut out of the process? Sure feels that way.

Why do we have PBS?

I thought the whole point of PBS was that it was pure, without commercials or the commercialization that comes with having to sell ads. They could show the stuff that no one would pay for, but was good for our collective souls. I tell you what, we have been sold a bill of goods.

Turn on PBS during the morning and you will see commercials lots of commercials, especially for McDonald's. What part of our soul is that feeding? Probably the same part that makes a nuggest on a chicken.

Go in to any toy store and there will be an entire section of Sesame Street toys. Plus, you can find Elmo on everything from t-shirts to diapers. The Count must be keeping pretty busy counting up all the money that these shows bring in.

Then the argument comes, "But without PBS who will show the arts programming or the documentaries?" The five or six other channels that basically have the same line up as PBS (i.e. TLC, Discovery, The History Channel). In fact, dare I say it, the shows on the pay channels are usually better produced and more in depth than on public broadcasting.

How many children are fed by PBS, clothed, given shelter? None. And if you try to tell me that they can't afford cable so they can't see the other stuff, I will tell you that you live in a fantasy world. Maybe they shouldn't have it as part of their monthly budget, but they do. I have seen parents claim that they can't afford food, but they have cable.

I say it is time to let PBS go the way of the test pattern, cigarette sponsored variety shows and knob turning television sets. Those are obsolete and so is PBS. While we're at it, can we get rid of reality shows too?

I'm Back

Nurse Ratchet had me down for some electroshock therapy, but I'm back.
